| The
Dogon region lies south of the river Niger in Mali, principally located
along the Bandiagara escarpment. It is probably the main reason that
tourists make the effort to visit the country, but certainly not the only
one. Mali is a fascinating country, with friendly people, amazing
sights and a very different perspective on life for Europeans. This
site is principally concerned with the Dogon region, but also includes
basic information on other parts of Mali, such as the legendary city of
Timbuktu and Djenne with its famous mud mosque. There are also some
random photographs of places we got lost on the way...Eventually
the links from this page will provide an introduction to the history, culture, bizarre
practices and things to see and do in the Dogon region. |

Photographs and general
information from our visit to
Dogon in 2005. For travel details and itinerary click
here. |

A brief background on why
the area was settled and by whom; how they survived invasion. |

A quick romp through their
animist perspective on creation and life. |

Eventually I aim to put
some maps here, as well as an outline of climate etc. |

It would be a shame to go
all that way and not see at least some of the other fascinating places in
Mali. |
